Contribution Acceptance Guidelines
- The Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation accepts contributions of various types, listed below. Receipts are issued relevant to the type of charitable contribution. The intent of the donor’s contribution is verified in the receipt letter and will be honored.
- The Community Foundation abides by the Donor Bill of Rights.
- The Community Foundation Board reserves the right to accept or refuse a contribution based on Board policies or other considerations pursuant to the Community Foundation's Mission.
- The Community Foundation reserves the right to make any or all investment and disposition decisions regarding funds contributed to the Community Foundation, without regard to the purpose or type of fund.
- The Community Foundation can establish Donor Advised Funds to provide donors with an opportunity to have collaborative involvement with the fund; staff can assist in identifying the charitable issues and needs in the community that the donor cares most about. Donor Advised Funds are established through a fund agreement and there is no minimum gift required to start the fund. More about Donor Advised Funds.
Ways of Contributing
Cash or Check Gifts
Download a Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation Gift Card and mail to the foundation offices at 250 E. Front Street Suite 310, Traverse City, MI 49684. Checks can be made out to the Community Foundation with the specific fund to which the donation is being made noted on the memo line.
Credit Card Gifts
You can make a contribution to a fund at the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation through our Online Giving Option. You can also make a credit card gift by calling our office at 231-935-4066 or 1-800-678-4066 or by mail. We are a certified Community Foundation in Michigan and licensed to solicit in Michigan. We can only accept on-line donations from those with Michigan addresses. If you are not a Michigan Resident, please call or toll-free number, 1-800-678-4066 to make your credit card donation.
If you choose to make a credit card donation, your donation will be credited to the named fund and given for current funding or a permanent endowment. (Gifts to endowment may qualify for the Michigan Tax Credit.) To achieve maximum benefit from online contributions, the minimum amount you can give online is $25. Gifts smaller than $25 can be made by mail.
Security. This site (gtrcf.org) has contracted with GeoTrust, a secure site manager for the processing of credit card donations.
Stock Gifts
The Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation can accept stock gifts through our foundation brokerage account cost effectively. Contact the foundation offices at 231-935-4066 for the brokerage account information needed. When you provide the foundation with the name of the stock and the number of shares, the gift will be credited properly.
Planned Giving
- Charitable Trusts. The Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation welcomes contributions from charitable trusts.
- Bequests.The following is suggested as possible language for a donor who wishes to leave a bequest to the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation and any of its component funds.
I give to the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation, an IRC 501(c)3 public charity, Michigan non-profit corporation and certified Community Foundation serving Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, and Leelanau Counties, headquartered in Traverse City, Michigan, the sum of $ __________________ (or ______% of my estate; or the property described herein) to be used for __________________________________.
- Community Gift Annuity. The Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation Gift Annuity program offers donors the opportunity to turn assets into guaranteed income, while leaving the remainder amounts to charities of their choice. If you would like to leave a gift to your community and you are 50 years of age or older, you can establish a Community Gift Annuity with $25,000 or more. You and/or your designated beneficiaries can receive a fixed life income amount quarterly or annually. At the end of the beneficiary's lifetime(s) a gift is made to the Community Foundation and to the charity or charities of your choice. More about Gift Annuities.
Gifts of Property
The Community Foundation will accept gifts of property, such as real estate, on a case-by-case basis. Please call our office, 231-935-4066, for more information or to discuss what you have in mind.
