The scholarships listed below are expected to be available to full-time Central High School students graduating in 2012.
Achievement of Excellence Award* The Achievement of Excellence Award is presented to a graduating senior who has distinguished him/herself through academic achievement, leadership, and proven skills in the adult roles of: Citizen, Healthy & Fit Individual, Family Life Member, Life-Long Learner, and Worker. To be considered for this award, students must have a GPA of at least 3.0 and submit a portfolio. Portfolio requirements are available at the counseling office.
Jack Edward Allen Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is to be awarded to a student who has attained an Eagle Scout Ranking designated by the Boy Scouts of America. Eligible students must submit a separate application. For more information click here.
Joe Brisson Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is to be awarded to students who have played on a soccer team (jv, varsity, intramural, city, etc), and demonstrate an adventurous sprit and a zest for life. Eligible students must submit a separate application. For more information, click here.
The Les and Anne Biederman Foundation, Inc. Scholarship In keeping with the visions and determinations that were held by the late Les Biederman, this fund was established to help encourage students who endeavor to pursue careers in nursing or business. One scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing a career in business and one scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing a career in nursing.
Class of 1944 and 1945 Scholarship Established by the Traverse City High School graduating classes of 1944 and 1945.
Coach Wayne Hintz Scholarship For a graduating senior of Traverse City Central High School who has participated in athletics during their high school years.
Kenneth M. Koch Memorial Scholarship The Koch Scholarship will be awarded to a worthy senior of the Traverse City Central High graduating class. Eligible seniors (3.0 GPA or better) will be considered.
Michele E. Mann Memorial Scholarship* This scholarship is in memory of Michele E. Mann and is to be awarded to a member of the graduating class. The selection will be based on scholastic achievement and overall citizenship.
Menzel Memorial Scholarship Thomas Menzel, in memory of his parents Irving and Emmaleen Menzel, who were both teachers in the Traverse City Area Public Schools District, established the scholarship. A 3.0 or better grade point average is required and the recipient must be pursuing a career in education. Scholarship is based on financial need.
Scott Miller Memorial Scholarship Established in memory of Scott Miller, this scholarship is available to a member of the TC Central hockey team that: practices as hard as he plays and always gives his best effort; has a strong camaraderie with his teammates and helps his teammates do their best; and that passes on to others his love of the sport and his love of his teammates.
National Honor Society Scholarships* The National Honor Society provides scholarships annually to members of the CHS Chapter. The awards will be granted to NHS Seniors based on exemplary NHS leadership, character, and service demonstrated during the student's years of membership.
Walter L. Oberlin Scholarship Scholarship to be awarded on the basis of interest in the subject areas of education or humanities and a grade point average at or above 3.0. Scholarship will be awarded during odd graduating years to a student at TC Central.
Old Mission Peninsula School Scholarship The Old Mission Peninsula Scholarship Fund has been established to recognize an outstanding graduating senior who attended Old Mission Peninsula Elementary School.
The Jim Ooley Scholarship When Jim Ooley retired in 1993 after 39 years of teaching and coaching, it was his desire to establish a scholarship fund to recognize an outstanding senior student athlete whose dedication and leadership exemplifies the ideals for which Jim Ooley stood. One student from Central High School will be awarded this scholarship.
Pepsi-Cola Scholarship The Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company will award a scholarship to a graduating senior with at least a 3.0 GPA who has demonstrated leadership, citizenship and service as evidenced by their personal commitment to their school and community.
Pioneer State Mutual Insurance Co. Merit Scholarship in association with Bonner Insurance Agency, Ford Insurance Agency, Johnson & Associates Insurance Agency, Larkin Insurance Agency, and Miles Insurance Agency This scholarship is available for a graduating senior who is pursuing a degree in a business/management related field and exhibits good citizenship, good attendance record, excellent oral/written communication skills and meet all academic standards with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Priority will be given to students involved in community and/or extracurricular activities. Financial need will also be taken into consideration.
John W. Rennie Memorial Scholarship “Where there is no vision people perish” John W. Rennie lived his own vision each and every day by contributing his energy, love, and commitment to his family, friends, and community. He lived a long, full and happy life because he gave infinitely more than he received. John believed that each person develops their own vision and purpose in life through education and experience. The selection will be based on scholastic achievement and active participation in school or community activities.
Laura Ann Rennie Memorial Scholarship The scholarship will be awarded to a female graduate in memory of Laura Rennie, daughter of John and Harriet Rennie. The John Rennie family has established a scholarship in memory of Laura, who would have been a member of the Class of 1992. She died December 18, 1986 when she was twelve years old. The selection will be based on scholastic achievement and active participation in school or community activities.
Brock Safronoff Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to a worthy Athlete/Scholar in memory of Brock Safronoff. Baseball players will have priority. The scholarship award will alternate each year between Central and West.
Senior Class Scholarship* Based upon funds donated by each Senior Class. Award based on GPA and service.
Kyle Sonnemann Memorial Scholarship This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from Traverse City Central High School.
Transportation Association Scholarship Fund Scholarship to be awarded by the Transportation Association to a student who has improved his/ her GPA during the school year to a 2.0 or better, has exhibited an improved social attitude, and improved attendance. The student should demonstrate financial need.
TCAPS Administrator's Association The Administrators in the Traverse City Area Public Schools District have established a scholarship to be awarded to a worthy senior who is pursuing a career in education.
