The scholarships listed below are available to students graduating from Traverse City West Senior High School in 2009. To apply, click "2009 Traverse City West Senior High Scholarship Application" at the bottom of this page. Applications will be available February 16 - March 16, 2009.
Achievement of Excellence Award*
The Achievement of Excellence Award is presented to a graduating senior who has distinguished him/herself through academic achievement, leadership, and proven skills in the adult roles of: Citizen, Healthy & Fit Individual, Family Life Member, Life-Long Learner, and Worker. To be considered for this award, students must have a GPA of at least 3.0 and submit a portfolio to Mr. Ford in the Counseling Office. Portfolio requirements are available at the counseling office.
Jack Edward Allen Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is to be awarded to a student who has attained an Eagle Scout Ranking designated by the Boy Scouts of America. Eligible students must submit a separate application. For more information, click here.
Bay Area Urology Scholarship
The Bay Area Urology Scholarship scholarship is designated for a student planning on pursuing a nursing degree at NMC. Financial need will be taken into consideration.
Sylvester J. Beaton Memorial Scholarship Fund
This scholarship is to be awarded annually to a Traverse City West Senior High graduating senior. Applicants will have a 2.5 GPA or higher and is meant for a student who is on the rise academically. This scholarship is also a need based award.
Joe Brisson Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is to be awarded to students who have played on a soccer team (jv, varsity, intramural, city, etc), and demonstrate an adventurous sprit and a zest for life. Eligible students must submit a separate application. Click here to apply.
The Les and Anne Biederman Foundation, Inc. Scholarship
In keeping with the visions and determinations that were held by the late Les Biederman, this fund was established to help encourage students who endeavor to pursue careers in nursing or business. One scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing a career in business and one scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing a career in nursing.
Interlochen Women's Club Scholarship
This scholarship will be awarded to a female Interlochen-area resident.
Moomers Homemade Ice Cream Scholarship
Moomers Homemade Ice Cream Scholarship will be awarded to a college bound graduating senior who is a resident of Long Lake Township. Recipients will have a 3.5 GPA or better and will have earned a varsity letter in at least one sport during their junior or senior year.
Gordon and Margaret Moores Memorial Scholarship*
This scholarship is given to a student who has distinguished herself/himself in academics, extra-curricular activities and community service. Special attention will be given to those who plan to pursue a career in education, medicine or other career which serves others.
National Honor Society Scholarships*
The National Honor Society will award scholarships from funds raised during the year. The awards will be granted to worthy seniors on the basis of scholarship (3.5 or better), leadership, character, and service.
Walter L. Oberlin Scholarship
This scholarship is to be awarded on the basis of interest in the subject area of education or humanities, with the applicant having a GPA at or above 3.0. The scholarship is awarded to West Senior High School students in odd graduating years.
Old Mission Peninsula School Scholarship
The Old Mission Peninsula Scholarship Fund has been established to recognize an outstanding graduating senior who attended Old Mission Peninsula Elementary School. When there are eligible applicants from both West Senior High and Central High School, the award amount will be split between the two schools. If only one school has eligible applicants, that school will award the full amount.
The Jim Ooley Scholarship
When Jim Ooley retired in 1993, after 39 years of teaching and coaching, it was his desire to establish a scholarship fund to recognize an outstanding senior student athlete whose dedication and leadership exemplify the ideals for which Jim Ooley stood. One student from West High School will be awarded this scholarship.
Pepsi-Cola Scholarship
The Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company will award a scholarship to a graduating senior with at least a 3.0 GPA who has demonstrated leadership, citizenship and service as evidenced by their personal commitment to their school and community.
Pioneer State Mutual Insurance Co. Merit Scholarship
in association with Bonner Insurance Agency, Ford Insurance Agency, Johnson & Associates Insurance Agency, Larkin Insurance Agency, and Miles Insurance Agency
This scholarship is available for a graduating senior who is pursuing a degree in a business/management related field and exhibits good citizenship, good attendance record, excellent oral/written communication skills and meet all academic standards with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Priority will be given to students involved in community and/or extracurricular activities. Financial need will also be taken into consideration.
Pirate’s Cove Adventure Park Leadership Award
One scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior who demonstrates strong leadership in both the classroom (with a GPA of 3.4 or above) and in extra-curricular activities. This is a need-based award.
John W. Rennie Memorial Scholarship
“Where there is no vision people perish”
John W. Rennie lived his own vision each and every day by contributing his energy, love, and commitment to his family, friends, and community. He lived a long, full and happy life because he gave infinitely more than he received. John believed that each person develops their own vision and purpose in life through education and experience. The selection will be based on scholastic achievement and active participation in school or community activities.
Laura Ann Rennie Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship will be awarded to a female graduate in memory of Laura Rennie, daughter of John and Harriet Rennie. The John Rennie family has established a scholarship in memory of Laura, who would have been a member of the Class of 1992. She died December 18, 1986 when she was twelve years old. The selection will be based on scholastic achievement and active participation in school or community activities.
Senior Class Scholarship*
The Class of 2008 has established a scholarship fund with the intent of recognizing achievements during school in a variety of programs and to encourage continuing education.
Student Senate Scholarship*
This scholarship will be to recognize a senior in Student Senate who has participated in student government for at least two years and is planning to attend college after high school.
Traverse City Administrators' Association Scholarship*
The administrators in the Traverse City Area Public Schools District have established a scholarship to be awarded to a worthy senior who is pursuing a career in education.
Traverse City West Academic Boosters Scholarship*
Awarded to a graduating senior with a minimum of a 3.25 GPA.
Traverse City West High Retired Staff Scholarship*
This scholarship is to recognize a graduating senior who shows commitment to academics and school.
Traverse City West High Staff Scholarships*
The WSH staff raises funds to honor students who have shown academic diligence and service in our school.
Traverse City West Staff Scholarship in Memory of Carol Bowman*
This scholarship is awarded in memory of Carol Bowman, former West Senior High staff member. A student should have good attendance and contribute to their school and community.
TCAPS Transportation Association
Scholarship to be awarded by the TCAPS Bus Drivers Association to a student who has improved his/her GPA during the school year to a 2.0 or better, has exhibited an improved social attitude, and improved attendance. The student should demonstrate financial need. This award may be used for college or a training school and be applied toward room and board, tuition, or books.
Dave Walker Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from West Senior High that demonstrates excellent citizenship, is involved in school activities, demonstrates they serve others and is interested in a career that serves others, and that is contributing monetarily to their own education.
