Leave a Lasting Impression.  Here's How.
Camp Roy-El Scholarship Endowment

Roy and Ellen Brigman founded Camp Roy-El in 1952. Over 40 years they welcomed 795 campers with physical disabilities.

After the camp closed, the passion of the Brigmans and Camp-Roy El continued through the Camp Roy-El Scholarship Endowment, created in 1992.

Looking back 25 years, 100 scholarships have been awarded to college students dedicated to helping those with disabilities. And, through the power of endowment, Roy and Ellen Brigman, and all of those who loved and were impacted by Camp Roy-El, are giving it forward, forever.

About Us

In 1992, a group of community champions had a vision to build a community foundation for our region. Their wish was to enrich our communities then, now and forever.

Through partnerships with donors, nonprofits and volunteers, we have the opportunity every day to bring this wish to life by promoting philanthropy and engaging in community leadership, enriching our communities with grant dollars, and building endowments to make a lasting impact for generations to come.

MISSION STATEMENT:

The Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation exists to facilitate, promote and serve philanthropy and permanent endowments, thereby enhancing the quality of life in its five-county region.

We do this by:

  • Developing and supporting a diverse collection of permanent endowments supported by a wide range of donors.
  • Involving a large number of regional volunteers in building endowments and in awarding grants to benefit our communities.
  • Developing an understanding of the role of charitable giving in filling community needs.
  • Empowering youth to make a difference through grant making and leadership.
