When Gini died in May 2017, her family looked for the best way to continue her impact and legacy. Based on her dedication to providing food for families in need, Gini’s Pantry Endowment was established to help feed the community.
The Community Foundation will award annual grants for this purpose to ACTS in the name of Gini.
What impression will you make? Let's give it forward, together.

Within the last week, the Record-Eagle has shared several pieces highlighting the work of philanthropy in our region. This has included announcements of grant awards from your Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation and Rotary Charities, as well as the great work by our neighbors to the north at the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Community Foundation and the Charlevoix County Community Foundation.
At your Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation, we have the privilege throughout the year to match donor passion with purpose through grant awards; yet, we find particular pause and celebration in our opportunity to begin this season of giving with giving.
At your Community Foundation we know that to make a difference it takes the generosity of many donors with gifts both large and small. We also know that it takes the wholehearted commitment of the nonprofit organizations that are delivering critical and valuable programs and services every day, in every corner of our region.
Together, with the support of generous donors and the dedication of nonprofit organizations, the Community Foundation has benefited communities across our region to the tune of more than $2.5 million this year. Together we have sent kids to college and trade school; we have supported vibrant arts and culture; we have ensured access to recreation; we have supported our seniors; we have preserved and protected our natural areas; we have provided access to health and human services.
Over the last two years, we have been strategically focused on our vision for an exemplary philanthropic region supporting strong, vibrant and healthy communities now and for generations to come. Within that, we are committed to our role as the local giving partner for lasting community impact, to our core mission of building sustainable assets to impact our communities for generations to come and to serve donors and support our communities, striving to award even more than $2.5 million in grants next year and every year in the future. This can only be done with vision, partnership with many donors and the steady hand of philanthropic intention.
As we close 2016, and look forward to our 25th year in 2017, we celebrate the spirit of giving and the desire of many donors to leave a lasting impression on our region. We are a region with a strong ethic and passion for caring and sharing. Thank you to the donors in our region who share the passion of creating an exemplary philanthropic region and share the desire to build and support strong, healthy and vibrant communities now and for generations to come.
