Susan's (she/her) passions straddle activism and social justice, writing and health care.
Activism: Traverse City Sara Hardy 2011 Humanitarian of the Year, longtime member thereafter on the TC Human Rights Commission, 17 years on the state board Disability Rights Michigan(formerly MPAS) including as board president and statewide ballot candidate 2020 & 2022 Wayne State University Board of Governors receiving nearly 100,000 votes in 2020.
Writing: President of MI Writers, " Traverse City Record Eagle" Columnist since 2008, member MI Press Association and National Society of Newspaper Columnists, 2024 NWS Bill Montgomery Literary Service Award, Treasurer Traverse Area District Library board, Ragdale Artists Resident and Curatorial Board member and treasurer of environmental/art nonprofit SeedKeepers.
Health Care: Member Patient & Family Advisory Councils (PFAC) U of M Rogel Cancer Center, Cowell Cancer Center, Munson Medical Center and Detroit Reciving University Health Center, university/college instructor of psychology at NMC/FSU/GVSU/U of M and Univ. Of Nice, FR, practicing therapist, twice awarded the doctoral Rumble Fellowship- Wayne State University, fellow in The Patient Revolution, graduate student in the certificate program "The Body Chronicles" at Pacific University-Oregon.
Susan and her husband, Tom Mair, have been together since 1980 and married since 1982. They moved to Traverse City in 1987.
