The Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation has awarded $334,090 in Community Funds grants to 21 organizations across Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, and Leelanau Counties and the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians.
Community Funds grants offer flexible support for local organizations working in the areas of greatest need. The Community Foundation awarded grants this cycle to: Women’s Resource Center, Goodwill Northern Michigan, Northwest Michigan Supportive Housing, Acme Christian Thrift Store & Food Pantry, Salvation Army of Traverse City, the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, Munson Healthcare Foundations, Homestretch Nonprofit Housing, Mancelona Food Pantry and Resale Store, Communities In Schools of Northwest Michigan, Housing Trust of Benzie, LIFT Teen Center, Paddle Antrim, Housing North, Leelanau Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Central United Methodist Church, Northern Michigan Health Consortium, Kalkaska Area Interfaith Resources, FLOW, Grand Traverse Industries, and Northwest Michigan Arts and Culture Network.
“We received 94 Community Funds grant requests this season, which continues to show that our region needs these flexible funding resources,” said Steve Wade, Vice President of Community Impact for the Community Foundation. “Community Funds fill gaps that our other funds cannot, and they help address the most pressing challenges in our communities by supporting essential programs and services.”
This year’s Community Funds grant awards are strategically aligned with areas where support is most needed across the region:
- 43% of grants support housing-related efforts and solutions.
- 33% of grants benefit youth and mental health and well-being.
- Three grants support an organization that is either diversely-led or directly engages and supports underfunded communities.
