Community Foundation Awards $272,000 in Scholarships
Students throughout the five-county region are attending college this fall with scholarship funding from the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation.
This year, the Community Foundation awarded more than $272,000 in awards to 194 recipients.
“As we consider our vision of supporting healthy, resilient, and thriving communities and the needs we know exist in our region, we know that scholarship support can be a really meaningful way to keep young people engaged in their education and pursuing future success,” said Alison Metiva, community foundation vice president of strategic engagement and programs.
With the support of generous donors, the Community Foundation is able to offer scholarship opportunities to current high school seniors and returning college students, as well as trade school students.
The Community Foundation is focused both on matching donor passion with purpose – which allows for a diverse offering of scholarships opportunities based on financial need, community involvement, academic performance, and planned major or career path – as well as focusing on youth engagement and connectedness to community.
“It is our job as stewards of these scholarships is to ensure we’re meeting donor intent and using gifts in ways that have a meaningful impact for local students, which, ultimately, also have meaningful impact on our local communities” said Metiva.
