This year, the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation awarded $316,460 in scholarships--its highest award total to date--to 184 students across Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, and Leelanau Counties.
These scholarship awards included $48,470 to 21 students from Antrim, $85,180 to 23 students from Benzie County, $136,910 to 111 students from Grand Traverse County, $5,200 to three students from Kalkaska County, and $17,650 to 11 students from Leelanau County.
“We send a big congratulations to all students receiving our scholarships this year,” said Brittany Morton, operations and grants coordinator. “Because of the generosity shown by donor partners from across our region, every year we are able to support local youth in their post-secondary pursuits.”
The Community Foundation offers scholarship opportunities to current high school seniors, college students, and trade school students, based on a range of criteria, such as financial need, community involvement, academic performance, and planned major or career path.
“The variety of scholarship awards we offer provide opportunities for many students pursuing diverse post-secondary educational paths. These awards are a key component of our focus on uplifting education as an essential part of supporting healthy, resilient, and thriving communities across our region,” said Gina Thornbury, program and grants manager.
The Community Foundation is home to over 90 scholarship funds established by regional donors over the course of its nearly 30-year history. The Community Foundation will award additional funding from three other scholarships in July that fall outside of its regular scholarship cycle.
