Tompkins Scholarship Endowment Awards $38,500
The Tompkins Scholarship Endowment was established at the Community Foundation in 2016 through the Jim and Ida Tompkins Scholarship Trust. The Community Foundation awards scholarships annually for the benefit of graduates from Traverse City Area Public Schools. Awards are based primarily on academic achievement.
Mrs. Tompkins was the Assistant Superintendent of Business and Finance and later a member of the Board of Education, serving TCAPS for 48 years. Mr. Tompkins had a career of 36 years with the City of Traverse City, serving as City Clerk, City Commissioner, and Mayor. Mr. and Mrs. Tompkins dedicated their lives to the local community, both professionally and through their volunteer work.
This year, the Community Foundation awarded nine scholarships from the Tompkins scholarship endowment to six graduating high school seniors and three current college students who all previously graduated from Traverse City Area Public Schools. In total, the Tompkins Scholarship Endowment granted $38,500 this year to TCAPS students pursuing higher education.
