Perry Hannah "Leadership Lessons Learned" Essay Contest
The Perry Hannah "Leadership Lessons Learned" Essay Contest was created to inspire future leaders and encourage reading about our region's rich heritage. This special scholarship opportunity is coordinated by Peg Jonkhoff and Fred Hoisington, co-authors of the book Perry Hannah's Gifts, Then and Now, and members of the Community Foundation's Youth Advisory Council. High school juniors and seniors (in the 2018-2019 school year) in Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska and Leelanau Counties are invited to apply. The first place award will be $1,000 and the recipient's winning essay will be published in the next edition of The Perry Hannah "Leadership Lessons Learned" book. $500 will be awarded for the 2nd place essay.
Essay Rules & Directions
Eligibility: Applicant must be a junior or senior in the 2018-2019 school year and attending school in Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, or Leelanau County.
Deadline: Saturday, December 15th
Essay Instructions: Email cover sheet and essay as two separate Word documents to Gina at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please submit both documents in the same email with the subject line reading: "Perry Hannah 'Leadership Lessons Learned' Essay Contest". Essays should be 300-500 words and address this question: After reading "Perry Hannah's Gifts, Then and Now," how can you apply leadership lessons learned from the book, to your own future?
Book Availability: Books are available to check-out at the Traverse Area District Library, high school libraries and the Community Foundation office.
Within the cover sheet please include:
- Your name, phone number, and email address
- Your school, current counselor, and grade in 2018-2019
Award Announcement: The 1st and 2nd place winners will be announced in December
