Roy and Ellen Brigman founded Camp Roy-El in 1952. Over 40 years they welcomed 795 campers with physical disabilities.
After the camp closed, the passion of the Brigmans and Camp-Roy El continued through the Camp Roy-El Scholarship Endowment, created in 1992.
Looking back 25 years, 100 scholarships have been awarded to college students dedicated to helping those with disabilities. And, through the power of endowment, Roy and Ellen Brigman, and all of those who loved and were impacted by Camp Roy-El, are giving it forward, forever.
What impression will you make? Let's give it forward, together.
The Veliquette name is known well in the Elk Rapids area and the family’s matriarch, Marjory, was committed to giving. One of Marjory’s lasting legacies is her commitment and passion to the Miss Elk Rapids Scholarship Program, as well as to the Community Foundation Miss Elk Rapids Scholarship Endowment, which supports scholarship awards each year for pageant winners.
In honor of Marjory, her family, friends, and community, have given to create the Marjory Veliquette Memorial Scholarship Endowment – a permanent fund that will award a scholarship each year to a young woman in the Miss Elk Rapids Scholarship Program that has a little bit of Marjory in her… someone with a servant’s heart and committed to the spirit of giving. A fitting tribute for Marjory that will ensure her memory will be honored year after year, for generations to come.
