Ed and Nessa Laing Scholarship Endowment
The Ed and Nessa Laing Scholarship Endowment was created to support scholarship awards for graduating seniors that are planning to pursue a trade, technical, or vocational profession. Preference is given first for students from Suttons Bay Public Schools; second for students from Leelanau County; and third for students from Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse and Kalkaska Counties.
Ed and Nessa Laing were born and raised in the Detroit area. They attended public schools in Royal Oak and Redford, MI and met at Michigan State University. Through their educations, they developed a lifelong passion for learning through reading and “doing.” After retirement, they moved to Frankfort and then Suttons Bay. This endowment has been established by Ed and Nessa’s sons and their families, whose post-high school educations were largely paid for through Ed and Nessa’s generosity. It is the family’s belief that every young person deserves an equal chance to succeed in life and that a proper education is necessary to do so.
